About The Squad

The Bensley-Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad serves the eastern portion of Chesterfield County, Virginia, an area of approximately 85 square miles with a population of over 75,000.  The squad responds to more than 1,000 calls for assistance.

Our Mission

“The Bensley-Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad  Inc. shall provide 24 hour emergency ambulance and other first-aid services; to assist wherever possible in the saving of life or administering  pre-hospital  emergency care; to teach, among its members and throughout the community, methods of safety  and  emergency care; to render such other emergency services for the saving of life and other humane purposes as the Corporation is equipped to render”

Operational Medical Director

Dr. Joanne E. Lapetina has 25+ years specializing in internal and emergency medicine.  She is Board Certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine.  She has served on the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians Board as well as the Richmond Academy of Medicine Board.

Dr. Lapetina graduated from Norfolk Christian High School in 1977 and went on to graduate from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1989, Alpha Omega Alpha.  Her career has included a Residency at the Medical College of Virginia Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics which was followed by positions staffing various Emergency Departments.

Dr. Lapetina was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Board for Emergency Medical Services by both Governor George Allen and Governor James Gilmore.  She is a member of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads and a member of the State Fire Chiefs Association and has a long record of public service and currently serves as medical director of the EMS and Fire agencies of multiple emergency crews.

    It is always reassuring to see the BBVRS crew on the sidelines this season during the LC Bird Skyhawks football games. Having a winning season this year the only injuries have been the pride of the fallen competition!! Thanks BBVRS for your service to the community

    I have admired rescuing people and those who do the real work..i hope that I can finally stop wishing and attend to a rescue squad every day I love it thank you
